iPhone Course at the AutoNation Academy of Art and Design

In what’s thought to be America’s first accredited iPhoneography course the The AutoNation Academy of Art + Design presents artist and photographer Andy Royston’s program of five and ten week evening classes.

The classes will be held at the NOVA SouthEastern University’s Museum of Art complex in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and will be followed later in the fall with weekend workshops designed to highlight the world of what is now known as ‘mobile photography’.

Andy’s approach is simple – to explore the possibilities of the camera that is always with you – your phone.

He says “You can not only take amazing photos, but enhance, create, share and publish too. The course is designed to free up your inner photographer and unleash your creative spirit.

“By the end of your course you will find that the iPhone snaps you used to take are now amazing photos that capture the moment. The class will feature lectures and seminars showcasing the best artists/photographers currently creating with their iphones, tutorials on how to use your iphone to create fine art as well as individual and group reviews of iphone creations”

Andy Royston is well-known in the international iPhoneography community, and is the photographer behind one of the cornerstone projects of this emerging art form. His live-from-the-beach photography project began in 2009 and has provided a positive and uplifting view of Fort Lauderdale to the world via his numerous social media outlets under the name FtLauderdaleSun

The project – where images are taken, edited and shared right from the beach – is all part of what Andy calls “Fresh photography” which he believes is what is driving the surge in mobile phone photography.

Andy says “What makes mobile photography different from mainstream photography is the immediacy. It’s the sharing aspect through the cellphone devices that makes this so exciting as an artform.” It might better be called social photography, because so many will share their photos with friends, family and followers within minutes.

“The old protective mentality, where precious snaps are stored in a shoe box is long gone. Our lives are increasingly being documented in a visual way, but these shapshots are now taken to share; we’re all getting better together. It’s like rock’n'roll radio – everyone’s tuning in!”
